Course Overview

Each General English course meets four days per week, 2 hours per day, for a period of eight weeks. Initial placement is by Cambridge English Placement Test (CEPT).

Detail:

In the Low Beginner course students will participate in communicative activities designed to develop fluency and confidence in speaking and listening. Students will engage in learner-centered reading and writing activities, as well as activities designed to enhance vocabulary acquisition. Students completing the Low Beginner course will be able to accurately write simple sentences and questions, ask and answer simple questions on familiar topics or immediate needs, and recognize familiar words and basic phrases in listening and reading.


High Beginner

Detail: In the High Beginner course students will expand their communicative abilities through acquisition of vocabulary, participation in tasks and games requiring exchange of information, learner-centered reading activities, and practical writing tasks. Students completing the High Beginner course will be able to read simple texts finding predictable information, comprehend main points in short, clear listening activities, exchange routine information in speech, and write short notes related to matters of immediate need.


Low Intermediate

Detail:In the Low Intermediate course students gain practice in connecting ideas in speech and writing through learner-centered practice. Students gain recognition of high-frequency vocabulary, and expand the ability to comprehend main points of listening activities. Students completing the Low Intermediate course will be able to describe the plot of a book or film to classmates, write a personal letter describing experiences, understand the main idea of a tv show, and understand readings consisting of high-frequency words.


Intermediate

Detail: In the Intermediate course students develop the skills to produce clear written texts, explain viewpoints on subjects in spoken English, interact comfortably in conversation with native-speakers, and understand the main ideas of complex texts. Students completing the Intermediate course will be able to write a simple connected text on a topic of personal interest, understand the main points of spoken English related to work or school, demonstrate reading comprehension with texts on familiar topics, and orally present reasons or explanations for opinions on a topic.


High Intermediate
